Dan Fairchild Photography

Dan Fairchild, PhD, is an award winning photographer whose images have appeared in numerous publications in the United States and Canada, as well as Brazil, Russia, and Taiwan.   Among his mentors have been Galen Rowell of Mountain Light and Sam Abell of National Geographic.    Carnival Cruise Line awarded his "Paris by Moonlight" photo of the year.

Born in Detroit, he attended the University of Michigan as an undergraduate, and the University of Miami for graduate school.    After more than twenty years as a clinical psychologist in Miami, Florida he and his wife spent several years traveling before permanently settling in Vancouver, British Columbia.

"I love travel and try to communicate in my photos the experience of engaging a world that feels new.   There's a conscious attempt to see beauty wherever I am, and highlight it in my images."

Since moving to Vancouver, Dan's work has centered upon cultural activities.   He was commissioned to photograph all works of First Nations' artists for the Simon Fraser University/Bill Reid Foundation auction website, and has photographed multiple community events for the Public Dreams Society and the Fringe Festival.

Currently, Dan is the Official Photographer for the Vancouver Sculpture Biennale.   His images are used in the school curriculum developed for the Biennale and for all of the Biennale's promotional materials.   He photographs artwork for the Buschlen-Mowatt Gallery and several local and international artists.   In addition to working with artists, he sits on two Boards concerned with senior issues and was chosen to produce the nursing home photos used on the website for Advocates for Care Reform.   He keeps very busy.
